Small Town Savior: Small town savior
Joseph Andrè, a Catholic priest from Belgium, was a large asset to many kids in Belgium. While Belgium was under the control of the German's, Joseph jumped to the aid of the many children to help them to safety. He would take kids that were in danger and bring them to his parish, which he used as a safe house. Keeping them at the safe house for as little time as possible, he would go around the town and beg for whatever food people could spare to feed the children. As soon as he could, Joseph would take the kids, even up to 20 at a time, and move them to a household with a family that he knew he could trust to take care of them. He did this until the very end of the war. Despite his parish being located directly next to the gestapo station and he being interrogated multiple times, he never got caught for the deeds he did for these many Jewish children. We feel that this is an amazing thing that Joseph did. The ability to feed up to 20 kids at a time by means of begging is incredible. Not to mention the inability to get caught when he was suspected of something suspicious. Joseph Andrè was an extraordinary man.
